Remodeling Guy Round-Up

Ready for the Round Up?

Welcome to the world's smallest master bathroom! I think it measures around 5x8. That's OK though since I hate to clean bathrooms it doesn't take me long.

It had a faux finish that I painted 4-5 years ago that just seemed a little blah. I saw the board and batten technique on a blog (can't remember which one), fell in love and knew I had to do that in my bathroom.

I still need to install a white outlet and switch as well a piece of quarter round by the vanity.

Here are before pictures: (Boy, is it hard to take a pic in a small space!)

Here are the after pictures:

  • The paint color is Impressionist by Ralph Lauren but is Sherwin Williams Cashmere paint (the best paint!). I already had this from our powder room.
  • I painted the vanity black using Sherwin Williams paint for cabinets and changed the hardware.
  • I used MDF strips from Lowes for the Board & Batten technique. They were only $2 something for a 10' strip. I had to do THREE coats of white semi-gloss paint. I hate doing more than two! I also caulked each strip and the top.
  • Fabric from Walmart at only $4.44 per yard. Isn't it beautimous?!
  • Flooring from Home Depot and we already had most of it from our kitchen.
Total cost was around $50 for everything! The best part is that I get to hear how beautiful it is from Mr K. Ahhh, it's good to be appreciated.

20th Wedding Anniversary!

Today marks my 20th wedding anniverary. Wow. Twenty years sounds like such a long time but the time has flown by in some ways and crawled along in other ways. It hasn't always been a bed of roses but we love each other and are committed to our marriage and family. We can still laugh together and at each other so we must be doing something right!

Hubby is spending our special day in California with 5 of his students at the National DECA Competition. They knew it was our anniversary so one of them made us the most beautiful card. In it they thanked me for allowing him to make the sacrifice of going with them instead of being with me. They also thanked him for being such a great teacher and providing opportunities for them like this trip. What great kids! Teenagers are not always as self-absorbed as we think!

I am in the process of changing up our bedroom. Here is a little pillow I made in honor of our 20th.

Not a great picture but it is dark outside. The fabric is a scrap piece of linen I found at HL. I printed the initials from a word doc and used carbon transfer paper to outline them. A black paint pen completed the project!

Well, I am off to watch American Idol. I am totally rooting for Danny!
